On To The Cape

Yes, it is September and once again cousins Joan and Ben graciously invited us to join them on the cape for several days (actually Joan admitted that if we would have sent the baked goods, Harriet could have delivered them and Mike could have stayed home). Regardless, we had a wonderful time visiting beaches, ponds, stores, Provincetown and schmoozing while overlooking the everchanging Loagy Bay. We were there from Thursday, 9/11 through Monday, 9/15.

On the first afternoon we spotted some seals cavorting in the waves. Yes it is hard to tell they are seals, but take our word for it:

No swimming in the ocean, but from there we went to Great Pond

(notorious in Malinak legend as the place where Sharon took her first steps) and although there are no pictures, Cousin Joan and Mike did go swimming.

Then, back home where we watched a sunset over Loagy Bay:

Friday was given over to walking on the beach and after Nina arrived after lunch a long, chilly walk around a good part of Lieutenant Island. The pictures below are the back part of the island that is not visible from Joan's house.

Saturday was given over to schmoozing, eating and shopping (a dynamite triple play). Shopping was in Hyannis at a strip mall that had a Yankee Candle store, a Christmas Tree Shop and a Trader Joes (talk about getting your money's worth). Once again there was a different sunset over Loagy Bay.
Sunday was a rainy unpleasant day, so we hied ourselves to Provincetown to shop and people watch and eat a wonderful dinner in a Portugese Seafood restaurant. However, since we are incapable of sleeping through the night, we got to witness a Moonset over Loagy Bay. Monday dawned clear and warm, so we hied over to ocean to view the remains of what appears to be a whaling boat - the small ones that were used to chase after the whale once it was spotted. Note the high dunes in the backgound. The grey coloration at the base is actually clay that was exposed after a winter storm washed away the sand. After viewing this pice of history Joan convinced Mike it would be a good idea to take a swim in the ocean. Of course, she put on a wet suit while Mike used his natural wetsuit (layers of fat). Joan estimated the temperature as being between 55-60. Sorry no pictures. Nina left after lunch and we then wandered down to Long Pond. A location we used to take the kids because it is easier to walk to the water than at Great Pond. And this time there is a picture to prove that Mike swam out to the raft. Yes, it is Mike not a statue of Buddha.
After this picture was taken the camera which had fallen in the sand stopped working.

All in all it was a great long weekend and we can't thank Joan and Ben enough for having us.
