ON THE TOWN (AM PART I)

For those of you who are date challenged, it is now Friday morning and we are off to explore Sioux Falls - and we thought we had seen it all last year. But first a short quiz: How many times did we actually cross the Missouri River yesterday??
Ardice had planned our morning and we were off early. Ralph was unable to join us as he was having back and hip pains (he had taken his physical assessment test on Wednesday and had overdone it to prove how spry he still is - remember, he is approaching 93). He now uses a walker and is much more comfortable and steady.
Our first stop was The Center for Western Studies on the campus of Augustana College. The center highlights the history and culture of the northern plains. Local artists are on display with various depictions of the plains at all times of year. There are exhibits of an 1800's sod house and period clothing. An interesting glimpse into the rich multicultural history of the area. Photographs were not permitted.

From there it was off to see this years sculptures on Phillips Avenue (the main drag through downtown - it is one block away from Main Avenue which is not the main drag - makes sense in Sioux Falls).

A small sample follows: Windswept Lady in BlueOh sorry, that is not a scupture, but definitely a work of art. Now for the real deal.
Waiting for Mom:
South Pole, South Dakota - not much difference (more snow in Dakota).

The next two are for Guinness. Chickadee: And, Summer's Distraction: And now one for Conrad: simply called: Train. One for the Brits: Stone Booth. And for Bex (in the future). Ma, Can I Keep Him:At some point in the future, the complete set of pctures will be on Shutterfly.
Have to end for today - we are off to the Northups to help decorate for Christmas.
