Welcome back. If it is Tuesday then we must be heading west. However, before we move on, a quiz about yesterday - how many states, and which ones did we drive through??
Today is a fairly short easy day (approximately 527 miles in just over 8 hours), except for some rain we just drove and looked at the sights. Eastern Kentucky is a bit rocky and hilly, but it gives way to lovely rolling hills and west of Lexington are the huge horse farms - unfortunately in the fall the grass does not look blue (it actually does in the spring - would the kudzo kid lie?). We stopped in Louisville in an attempt to find a visitors center so we could get a map to find some places of interest, including Churchill Downs. We followed the directions to the visitors center several times without finding it. We decided that they wanted people to drive around and be forced to buy gas before they could get out of town, as the signs to get back onto the Interstate were also poor. Because the only places we actually got out of the car in Kentucky were rest areas, there are no pictures.
Due to the rather cloudy conditions, we opted to bypass the city and head about 10 miles northwest to Saint Charles. Turns out that there is a part of Saint Charles that is historic; right along the Missouri River.
The streets are lined with interesting shops and reataurants. Unfortunately (fortunately) they closed at 5:00 and we arrived at 4:45. This put a significant crimp in Harriet's shopping, but somehow she managed a couple of shops.
And speaking of things historic:
The river has been there forever - for those of you who thought the writer meant something else - you should be properly ashamed.

We wound up eating in local brewpub called Trailhead Brewing Co. (named because St. Charles was one of the trailheads for the wagon trains heading west.
Again, good food and local brews.

Wow, can't believe we're already in St. Louis. Time flies. St. Charles looks like a very picturesque little place--bummer that they roll up the sidewalks at a ridiculously early hour.
Can't wait to see the arch pics!
Depending on your route, four states; NY, PA, MA and WV.
However, since the route from New York to North Dakota apparently goes through Kentucky, I reckon you might have also gone through Ohio, Florida, picturesque parts of Canada and perhaps a short respite in the lovely Garden State, aka Armpit of America.
Looks like a good time so far, shame you couldn't locate Churchill Downs.
